Age Out
This page outlines the process when a student with a disability reaches the age of 22; they age out of eligibility for Part B special education services. Until a student turn 22 years of age, the Local Education Agency (LEA) must provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
Age Out
Select a student on the Students panel.
Click the Documents icon for the student.
From the Create New Document drop-down list, select Age Out under Special Education Notices, and click Go.
Enter a Label/Comment and click New. Click Additional Settings to specify the year and sections to include.
In the Student Information section, the system auto-populates the following information:
From the Student Info/Demo Part B profile:
Student
USI
DOB
From the LEA Entry/Exit Part B profile:
Grade
From the Special Education Part B profile:
Case Manager
Last Eligibility Meeting Date
Last IEP Annual Review Meeting Date
Enter a date manually or select a date using the calendar icon.
The system auto-populates the parent or guardian names with Educational Rights selected in the Student Contacts Part B profile. The user must select one parent or guardian, and the system displays their address.
The system displays the student's name as Dear Parent/Guardian of <student name> within the letter when the Student Holds Educational Rights checkbox is not selected within the Demographics Part B profile. Otherwise, it suppresses the parent or guardian selection and the document is addressed to the student as Dear <Student Name>.
The system calculates and populates the student's 22nd birthday date and the last day of the school year following the student's 18th birthday.
The system auto-populates the case manager's and student's full names and the declaration of what students will receive once they turn 22.
The system displays the name of the student’s Case Manager indicated in the Special Education Part B profile. The Case Manager’s Works At school, work phone, and email address displays. The school’s address details are displayed from the Locations profile. In the Case Manager Signature area, a case manager’s signature will appear through the digital signature functionality. In the Date area, the signature date will auto-populate when a case manager signs digitally.
