Statewide Alt Assessment Participation Criteria

This page refers to the eligibility criteria that must be met for students with significant cognitive disabilities to participate in the alternative assessment instead of the standard assessment.

Statewide Alternate Assessment Participation Criteria

  1. Select a student on the Students panel.

  2. Click the Documents icon for the student.

  3. From the Create New Document drop-down list, select Statewide Alt Assessment Participation Criteria under Individualized Education Plan, and click Go.

  4. Enter a Label/Comment and click New. Click Additional Settings to specify the year and sections to include.

  5. In the Student Information section, the system auto-populates the following information:

    • From the Student Info/Demo Part B profile: 

      • Student

      • USI

      • DOB

    • From the LEA Entry/Exit Part B profile:

      • Grade

    • From the Special Education Part B profile:

      • Case Manager

      • Last Eligibility Meeting Date

      • Last IEP Annual Review Meeting Date

    • The system displays the date once the form is finalized.

  6. In the Disability Category field, the system populates the student's primary disability from the Special Education Part B profile.

  7. Select a response for the Did the student participate in the DC Alternate Assessment last year? checkbox. 

  8. The user must select the applicable assessment checkboxes listed in the Please indicate ALL assessments in which the student participated in the last year area. The system provides a required text box when the user selects Other State’s Assessment or Other checkbox.

  9.  In the DC Alternate Assessment Participation Decision Documentation Form section, the system auto-populates the following information:

    • From the student's Student Info/Demo Part B profile:

      • Student Name

      • Student USI

    • Once the form is finalized, the system displays the date in the Date Form Finalized field.

  10. Select a response for each checkbox available under the Participation Criteria column. If the user selects Yes for any of these three checkboxes, the system provides the corresponding checkboxes in the Sources of Evidence column. The user must select one checkbox in each area.

  11. In Each of us participated in the decision regarding the DC Alternate Assessment section, the following information appears:

    • The system auto-populates the student's name and any student contact that has Educational Rights selected in the Student Contacts Part B profile.

    • Under the Name column, select a name from the staff table using the lookup function or type a free-form name, and click non-lookup for the following participants:

      • Special Education Teacher

      • General Education Teacher

      • Evaluator/Individual who can interpret assessment results

  12. Click Save, Done Editing.

  13. Upon finalization of the document, the system will create an Alternate Assessments profile record for the student using the date on the document as the Participation Date.

  14. Finalize the document once completed. To finalize the document, click Set Document, select Status from Draft to Final, and then click Accept.

  • Select the checkbox to confirm if the Evidence shows that the decision for participating in the DC Alternate Assessment was not based on the above list.

  • To add participants, click the plus icon.

  • The header of the page displays the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and its address.

Document Delivery

The Document Delivery section provides the method and date the document was sent to the parent or guardian and their response to the document.

  1. Within the Statewide Alt Assessment Participation Criteria document, navigate to Document Delivery using the flyout menu.

  2. Select a Mode of Delivery.

  3. Enter a date manually or select a date using the calendar icon in the Date of Delivery field.

  4. Click Save, Done Editing.
