English Learners (EL)

This group includes students who have limited proficiency in English. These students face the challenge of learning the language while also needing support for their special educational needs. Special education services for English Learners are designed to address both language acquisition and the specific challenges related to their disabilities.

When the page loads, all mandatory fields in this section are highlighted with a yellow background.

If any forms are left unfilled at submission, they will be displayed with a pink background.

This section provides the following details about the student enrolled in the PowerSchool English Learners Program.

Multilingual Learner Status.

In this section, you can provide the results of the most recent proficiency tests. This section is auto-populated from the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA).

Monitoring Period

Select the duration for which the EL Program’s progress has to be monitored.

Create an EL Profile

  1. Select a student on the Students panel.

  2. Click the Profile icon for the student.

  3. Navigate to English Learners (EL) using the flyout menu.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. In the EL Status section, select ML Status. The options available are:

    • English Learner

    • Exited - Monitoring Year 1

    • Exited - Monitoring Year 2

    • Exited - No Longer Monitored

    • Initially Proficient

    • To Be Determined

  6. Select Student Language.

  7. Select Country of Origin.

  8. Choose the US Entry Date using the date picker.

  9. Select Refusal of Services if you do not want special accommodations.

    • If this option is selected, choose the Parent Refusal Signature Date using the date picker.

  10. Select EL Teacher of Record using the lookup icon.

  11. The EL Program Model is auto-populated from the ILP Accom Section.

  12. The Recent English Proficiency Scores section is auto-populated from the WIDA Assessments document.

  13. The ILP Information section is auto-populated from the ILP Cover page.

  14. Click Accept Changes.
