Home Language Survey
Overview
The Home Language Survey is an optional tool for gathering information about the languages spoken by students at home. This survey helps all the stakeholders understand the students' linguistic background, which is crucial for providing appropriate support and accommodations in their education.
Create
Select a student on the Students panel.
Click the Profile icon for the student.
Navigate to Home Language Survey (HLS) using the flyout menu.
Click Edit.
Choose the Native Language(s) of Student. Select up to three different languages, if available. Identifies the main language spoken by the student at home. This helps educators understand the student's linguistic environment and potential language needs.
Choose Language(s) spoken most often by the Student. Select up to three different languages, if available. Helps evaluate the student's skill level in English and any other languages they may be proficient in. Provides insights into the student's language skills, which can affect their learning and communication in the classroom.
Choose Language(s) spoken most often by the Student in the home. Select up to three different languages, if available. Explores how and when the student uses different languages at home and outside. Offers an insight into the student's language exposure and usage, aiding in planning effective instruction and support.
Select Date Parent/Guardian completed HLS using the date picker. This is a required field.
Select School Corporation where HLS was completed using the lookup icon. This is a required field.
In the File Attachments section, click Browse or drag a file to add to the survey. You can upload up to three file attachments.
Click Accept Changes.
