Notice of Initial Proposed IEP

A Notice of Initial Proposed IEP is a formal document issued to parents or guardians when a student is identified for the first time as eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This notice serves to inform parents about the proposed Individualized Education Program (IEP) and details the support and services that the school plans to provide.

A Notice of Initial Proposed IEP:

  • Informs Parents/Guardians – Provides details about the newly developed IEP for their child.

  • Ensures Parental Rights – Allows parents to review, discuss, and consent before implementation.

  • Explains Proposed Services – Outlines special education services, accommodations, and goals to support the child’s learning needs.

  • Complies with Legal Requirements – Meets IDEA’s mandate that parents must be involved in the decision-making process.
