Section 504

The 504 Plan Draft tool helps educators create a structured 504 Plan document that includes all necessary sections, headings, sub-headings and relevant information about the student’s 504 case.

It leverages AI to provide a starting point for creating a legally compliant Section 504 plan.

The draft created here is not legally binding and should always be reviewed and finalised by the education team.

Key Features

  • Automatically generates a draft plan using AI.

  • Includes sections such as:

    • Student Information

    • Team Members

    • Purpose of Meeting

    • Areas of Concern

    • Accommodations and Supports

    • Review and Re-evaluation

    • Signature section for all the co-signatories.

  • Provides a consistent structure that educators can edit and modify as per their needs.

Accessing the Tool

On the PowerBuddy for Special Programs (PB for PSSP) Homepage, click on the 504 Plan Draft tile.

Access is available to teachers, special education staff, and administrators with the appropriate permissions.

Steps to Use

Generating the AI Draft/Template:

  1. Navigate to the PB for the PSSP homepage and click the 504 Plan Draft tile.

  2. The left-side panel has two ‘text boxes’.

    1. Student Information: In this part, you must enter or type the information in the following format.

      1. Grade: Mention the grade the student is studying in.

      2. School: Mention the name of the school the student is studying in.

      3. Attendance Information: Please provide a brief note on the student's attendance performance.

      4. Academic performance: Please provide a brief note on the student's academic performance.

      5. Grades: Please provide a brief note on the student's grades.

      6. Interventions: Please provide a brief note on the roadblocks or impediments to the student’s growth.

      7. Challenges: Please provide a brief note on the challenges the student is facing.

      8. Strengths: Please provide a brief note on the strengths the student has.

    2. Additional Information: In this section, please include any other relevant information that is not covered under the subheadings above and is necessary for the student's case.

For both these sub-sections, you can use approximately 4,000 characters.

You must write an exhaustive narrative about the student's behavior that causes disruption in the classroom. You must strive to be as detailed and descriptive as possible, including all possible observations and scenarios that may have occurred with the student during various classroom instances.

  1. The right-side panel features some pre-configured examples. When you use either of the examples, the text boxes on the left panel get populated with AI-generated content, which you can edit to suit your case requirements.

  2. Then click the ‘Generate’ button.

    1. If, after reading the draft' content, you are not satisfied with the document, click on ‘Regenerate’. The AI tool will completely update the draft.

  3. The right-side panel gets populated with a proper and structured draft of a 504 Document.

    1. This draft will include all the required sections and subsections as mentioned under the ‘Key Features’ heading previously.

  4. When you are ready to insert the draft document in your 504 Plan, click the ‘Insert’ button.

Please remember the disclaimer:
This is an AI-generated 504 Document and is not a legally binding document; it is intended solely as a draft for informational purposes.

Using the AI Draft/Template:

  1. To start editing the draft, click the ‘Edit Icon’ at the top right of this panel.

    1. This will change the UI to edit mode, allowing you to modify the draft.

    2. You can edit all the subsections of the template as provided.

      1. Click ‘Done Editing’ once you want to save your changes.

      2. Click ‘Cancel Edits’ if you want to abandon your changes

  2. If you want to use the draft content elsewhere, click the ‘Copy to Clipboard Icon’.

    1. Then you can go to your target document or application, and use ‘Ctrl + V’ to paste the copied content.

Giving feedback about the AI Draft/Template:

  1. If the AI-generated draft suits your requirements and purpose, you must click the 👍 ‘Like Icon’.

    • This opens a pop-up dialog box. Add feedback by selecting the attributes and giving a verbose response about why you liked the draft. Click ‘Submit’.

  2. If the AI-generated draft does not suit your requirements and purpose, you must click the 👎 ‘Dislike Icon’.

    • This opens a pop-up dialog box. Add feedback by selecting the attributes and giving a verbose response about why you did not like the draft. Click ‘Submit’.

Providing accurate feedback about liking or disliking a template will help the AI model work better on future responses, as it is your feedback that helps AI refine the algorithmic logic that generates the draft content for you.

Best Practices

  • Treat the draft as a starting framework, not a completed plan.

  • Ensure all accommodations reflect the student’s actual needs.

  • Engage team members, including parents, in reviewing the draft.

  • Document all changes made during team discussions to ensure transparency.

Limitations & Notes

  • The tool provides an AI-assisted draft; it is not legally binding.

  • Final approval and compliance checks remain the responsibility of the school’s special education team.
