Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA)

In the context of Special Education (SpED) in the U.S., CFSA most commonly refers to the Child and Family Services Agency, particularly in Washington, D.C. CFSA is responsible for child welfare, including protecting children from abuse and neglect. When it comes to Special Education, CFSA may be involved in cases where children in the foster care system or those experiencing neglect require special education services or Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

CFSA can play a role in:

  • Advocating for children in foster care to receive appropriate SpED services

  • Ensuring educational stability for children under child welfare supervision

  • Collaborating with school districts to provide necessary support
