Security Groups
PowerSchool Special Programs come with a pre-defined set of security groups.
The following table lists examples of different security groups for instructional management.
Security Group | Access Privileges |
---|---|
Curriculum Administrators | Access to set up and modify curricula. |
Curriculum Data Entry | Access to add, modify, and delete curriculum statements and align public resources (but not alter the hierarchy setup or create new curricula). |
Data Management | Access to add, modify, and delete student, staff, and class profiles. By default, there is a location-wide and system-wide version of this security group. The system-wide group can also edit any location, district, or other organizational profiles. |
Educational Administration | Access to view all information at a specific location or system-wide (but not edit it) and prepare reports that aggregate student performance across a location or district. By default, there is a location-wide and system-wide version of this security group. |
Student Assessment | Access to conduct offline and online assessments for a location or across the school district. By default, there is a location-wide and system-wide version of this security group. |
Teachers | Access to view and assess student performance in classes taught, generate lesson plans, create and align private instructional resources, and submit them to be made public. |
Support | Provide support for other users. Members of this group can be selected by a user who is sending a support request. By default, there is a location-wide and system-wide version of this security group. |
The following table lists examples of security groups for Special Programs Management.
Security Group | Access Privileges |

Administrators | Access to all student, staff, class, location, and district profiles and their respective goals and objectives. |
CST Members | Appropriate editing privileges to documents for students in their caseload. |
Case Managers | Similar to CST Members, but generally have somewhat elevated privileges and access to case manager reports. |
Teachers | Privileges to view information and documents for students. Privileges to assess and evaluate students. Limited privileges to edit certain sections of IEP and other documents. There may be separate security groups for elementary, middle, and high school teachers as appropriate for the school district. |
Secretaries | Privileges to enter, manage, and report on student information and documents. |
Educational Administration | View all information at one location (but not edit it) and prepare reports that aggregate student performance across a location or district. By default, there is a location-wide and system-wide version of this security group. |
Speech | Privileges to view information and documents for speech students. Privileges to assess and evaluate students. Limited privileges to edit certain sections of IEP and other documents. |
Service Providers | Service providers may be broken into separate groups, but generally, they can record services they have delivered and view essential parts of student profiles and documents like IEP, for students on their caseload. |
Support | Provide support for other users. Members of this group appear as an option when users send a support request. By default, there is a location-wide and system-wide version of this security group. |
