Define a Performance Assessment for Student Online Submission

If your school district has licensed the student online assessment component, you can configure a performance assessment for student online submission.

  1. Start by creating a new performance assessment or go the Performance Assessment tab of an existing performance assessment and click Edit.
  2. In the Number of Items to be Submitted Online by Students menu, select the number of items. An item can be either Inline Text (e.g., writing sample or student reflection) or a File Upload (e.g., word processing document, presentation file, or graphic).
  3. In the Student Directions text box, enter the overall directions for the student (encompassing all items to be submitted). Optionally, enter special accommodations information that will only be presented to students identified as receiving special accommodations.
  4. For each item to be submitted:
    • Enter a description in the Description (Student submission) text box.
    • Select Submission optional checkbox, enter a checkmark if the item is optional.
    • Select the type of submission (Inline Text or File Upload). For File Upload items, you can optionally specify the acceptable file extensions.
    • in the Notes for Scorer text box, you can optionally enter notes to show to the scorer when reviewing a student submission for this item.
  5. To save your changes, click Accept.
  6. If you want to make a file available to students taking this performance assessment, click Upload File Now in the Student Directions section. The link will appear to students directly below the student directions.

The performance assessment is ready to be scored using the student online assessment system. Note that performance assessments that have a student online submission section can only be administered online.
