Pre-slugged Answer Sheets

Once an assessment definition has been defined and an assessment administration has been created (refer to the Offline Assessment (Scanning) section), the printed answer sheets can also be pre-slugged with the student's name and ID number, reducing the chance for problems when later scanning the sheets.

  • For class-wide assessments, all students within the class or a selection of the students can be specified.
  • For location-wide and district-wide assessments, students within the Student Population Filter (required for pre-slugging) can be specified.
  • With district-wide assessments, each location must be printed in separate batches.

To print answer sheets that do not contain any student information, refer to Print Answer Sheets.

Print Pre-slugged Answer Sheets

  1. Log in to the Scoring Tool.
  2. Open the assessment administration that you want to print.
  3. To print answer sheets for this assessment, click the Printer icon.
  4. In the Print Assessment screen, specify the name of the assessment as it will appear on the answer sheets.
  5. Check Pre-slugged Answer Sheets.
  6. By default, the current date is printed on the assessment. Set this to be the date that the assessment will be administered.
  7. Select whether you want to Print Heading Pages.
  8. Select whether you want to Assign Random Assessment Variations to Students, and if so, which variation to use for the form.
  9. To select the students or classes to print, click the Select… button.
  10. On the Pre-slugged Assessment screen, select the students or classes. The Selected Items section of this screen will show the classes and students that are selected.
  11. For a district-wide assessment, select the location to print. You must print each location separately.
  12. On the Classes tab, select the classes to print.
To select individual students from a class, select the Show Students in Classes checkbox, and then expand the class to see a list of students.
  13. To select individual students from the entire student population for the assessment administration, click the Students tab.

Students that are selected separately will be printed before the selected classes. An assessment form is printed only once for each student. So if a student is in more than one of the selected classes, only one copy for the student will be printed.

  14. After you have completed selecting students, click OK.
  15. Click the Page Settings tab to alter page-specific items such as Margins and Orientation.
  16. Click Settings… to customize the page and printer settings.
  17. To control the size and shape of the answer bubbles or insert a page break between each assessment section (for multi-section assessments), click the Options tab.
  18. Click Preview… at any time to preview the answer sheet with the settings you have specified.
  19. Review how the answer sheet will appear on a page.
  20. Click Print to accept the settings and print the answer sheets.

If you selected to print heading pages, a heading page is printed displaying the student answer sheets that will follow. Heading pages can be turned off on the print window.
The example that follows illustrates how student names and IDs are pre-slugged on the printouts.
Keep in mind that you must scan the pages on the same computer that you used to print the answer sheets.

Discarding the printing settings that are stored for an assessment may cause the previously printed copies to no longer scan correctly. If you attempt to discard the settings, the scoring tool will prompt you to confirm the action before discarding the stored settings.
