Set Up Security for Individual Users

Sign in as a security administrator.

  1. Choose Search, then Staff.
  2. Use the Staff Quick Search Form to search by ID, Last Name, or First Name.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Click the padlock icon for the staff member.
  5. Click Edit Security.
  6. From the Login status drop-down choose one of the following:
    • If you select Not-activated, the user will not be able to sign in.
    • If you select Activated (temporary password), the user can sign in with a temporary password.
    • If you select Activated (personal password), the user can sign in with a password they have set.
    • If you select Activated (integrated login), the user can sign in via Single Sign-On (SSO). This option is available only if Special Programs is integrated within an active directory.
  7. To add the staff member to security groups, select the respective checkboxes. To view privileges for each security group, expand the group.

    While PowerSchool recommends assigning members to a security group, you can also grant or deny specific privileges to individual members. To reset, click Clear Individual Privileges.
  8. Click Accept.

Constrain a User's Membership by Location

Sign in as a security administrator to restrict a user's privileges by location.

  1. Choose Search, then Staff.
  2. Use the Staff Quick Search Form to search by ID, Last Name, or First Name.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Click the padlock icon for the staff member.
  5. Click Edit Security.
  6. For users who have been assigned multiple locations, the Constrain by Location checkbox appears. To restrict, select Constrain by Location.
  7. In the list of locations that appear, select at least one location.
  8. Click Accept.
