Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) (SA Only)

Completing the Least Restrictive Environment Section

  • From the flyout menu, select Least Restrictive Environment

  • The document pre-populates the student information from the IEP cover page: 

    • Student Name 

    • ID 

    • Meeting Date

  • Will the child participate 100% of the time with non-disabled peers…. Select Yes or No.

  • Indicate the reasons why the IEP team determined that provisions of services in the general ed setting was not appropriate This section will only be editable if the user selects No above. The user must check at least one checkbox when answering No above.

  • Is this placement in the school the child would normally attend if nondisabled? Select Yes or No.

  • If no, is the placement as close as possible to the child’s home? When the user selects Yes above, this question is not editable. When the user selects No above, the user must select Yes or No.

  • If no, explain why the IEP requires other arrangements. When the user answers no above, a required text box is displayed.

  • Will the student receive their services in any of the following environments? Select Yes or No.

  • When the user selects Yes above, the user must select an environment. Only one can be selected.

  • Continuum of placement - Select one value (LRE). Upon the finalization of a valid active IEP, the system will flow the LRE value to the Plan History profile. In addition, the LRE value will also flow to the student’s Special Education Information profile. If the student is not attending where he or she would normally attend if nondisabled, and is receiving services in Hospital or Homebound setting then the LRE value of (HH) Hospital/Homebound would be the valid selection. If the setting is in a Private Day School, then the LRE value would be (DI) Private Day School. If the setting is Public Day School, then the LRE value will be (DB) Public Day School. If a Residential setting, then the LRE value would be (RB) Public Residential or (RI) Private Residential.

  • Amount of time IN general education setting When the Auto Calculate checkbox is checked, the system will calculate the % of time. When the user selects Hospital, Homebound, Private Day School, Public Day School or Residential, the system will calculate 0% in general education. The user can uncheck the auto calculate checkbox to adjust. When the student is not in one of the 5 environments, the system will identify all services on the Schedule of Services page where NO is the response to Participating with non-disabled peers. Any service on the Schedule of Services page that is not provided with general education students will be deducted in the Amount of time IN general education setting calculation. The system will use the duration in minutes, periods, sessions, frequency values as part of the calculation. If an IEP is amended a service is ended (student no longer receiving the service), that service will not be included in the LRE page n the amended IEP.

    • Total Hours in a School Day When the IEP is created, the system will identify what school (located in the Student Information profile) the student attends. It will then pull in the Total Hours in a School Day value. The user can modify the value. This value will be used in the general education auto calculation.

    • Number of Days in a Week When the IEP is created, the system will default the value to 5 days. The user can modify the value. This value will be used in the general education auto calculation.

    • Minutes per Period When the IEP is created, the system he system will identify what school (located in the Student Information profile) the student attends. It will then pull in the Minutes per Period value. The user can modify the value. This value will be used in the general education auto calculation.

    • Minutes per Session When the IEP is created, the system he system will identify what school (located in the Student Information profile) the student attends. It will then pull in the Minutes per Session value. The user can modify the value. This value will be used in the general education auto calculation.

  • Select Save, Done Editing
